Ports Still Closed; May Reopen Next Week
The Port of Corpus Christi is undergoing channel surveys after some damage was found following Hurricane Harvey and remains closed, according to officials.
Platts reports officials saying they hope the port will reopen on Labor Day.
The Port of Houston's executive director said Wednesday that a Coast Guard task force is inspecting the port, then will decide what needs to be done before it can reopen.
"Our container facilities, our general cargo facilities received minimal damage," Roger Guenther told NPR.
The Houston Ship Channel is being surveyed for debris because of the huge amount of water that was dumped into the bay as a result of the hurricane.
Following Hurricane Ike in 2008 it took the port a week to reopen, NPR points out.
